"Flatwood Hank" is a National Champion. That means he won the 3 hour stake at Grand Junction, Tennessee, the most prestigious bird dog trial in America. He is part of my breeding program along with "Jerry's Runaway Bandit", one of the winningest bitches in history. Experience is always the best teacher, and after 40 years of breeding Pointers, I have a much better idea of how to produce the finest dogs possible. It's not magic, it just takes all of the proper tools like a great "Quail Program" to evaluate your pups so that as a breeder you can see if they have the qualities you are looking for.

I have many years of Field Trial experiences to learn what makes great dogs. Most dogs that run in trials "don't" win so I wouldn't want to breed to them. When breeding English Pointers you have a definite advantage over other breeds simply because of the way "The Pedigrees" are formatted. The Field Dog Stud Book pedigrees are formatted indentical to thoroughbred race horses. These pedigrees show the wins of the dogs, how many winners they have sired or whelped, and how many wins those winners have produced. No other pedigrees give you this important information. Of course, if you're not familiar with these individual dogs and their charactistics it becomes almost impossible to understand.

It's been said many times that the easiest way to get a good pup is to pick the breeder. Here are the qualities I believe a good breeder should have: 1) A good many years running dogs in trials and "Winning"; 2) Good track record of producing winning pups; and 3) A great "Quail Program" or access to lots of wild birds to train on. A person with these tools will be the one who will consistantly produce excellent pups. He will not tolerate anything less than the best. Unless you just want to take a chance, let him pick your pup for you. Tell him what you are looking for in a dog and he will have a good idea which pup out of a certain litter will most likely make you the best dog. Otherwise, close your eyes and grab one, you may get lucky.

An example of my breeding program are 5 dogs shown within this web site; The Buckshot Bandit, Charlie, The California Bandit, Hank's Pairie Bandit and Willie. These dogs are brothers from the same litter. My highly selective breeding program produces consistant phenotype and genotype bird dogs which is almost unheard of.

For more information on my Quail Program, pleases visit www.quailprogramvideo.com. I have a computer full of "Dogs" and "Quail" pictures for anyone interested. I'm virus free with Norton Antivirus 2002 and it's updated weekly. I'd love to hear from you no matter what kind of dog you prefer.

Thanks,
Dale Davis
